The project consists of the restoration of a town house located in southern Mallorca, amidst an arid landscape of fig trees, red earth and cactus . A town where traditional crafts are still alive. Passed on from generation to generation, these crafts are mixed with contemporary techniques and materials: timber, "ciment mallorquí", sandstone and concrete blocks. Negotiating between available and desired, the solutions are a combination of planning and improvisation on site. Rather than an overall refurbishment, the works to be done could be considered as an upgrading. A previous critical review of the intervention needed in each element is required. If unavoidable, different strategies are explored to minimize the aggression on the original building.
