Moving away from a monolithic architecture, the school is fragmented in three smaller volumes that emulate the scale of a house.

Na Caragol nursery and primary school is located in the periphery of Artà, a small town on the island of Mallorca. Set in a plot at the edge of farmland next to the adjacent school.
The whole nursery, school and dining hall program are developed as three independent ground floor buildings. The three resulting self-contained volumes are set in different levels to minimize earthworks while introducing ventilation and sunlight to the deep interiors. Moving away from a monolithic architecture, the school is fragmented in three smaller volumes that emulate the scale of a house.
Each piece is autonomous and sits on the plot according to topography, pedestrian access and playgrounds. The three volumes are defined from the exterior inwards, and their plan generate rich interstitial spaces around the buildings, likely to be occupied as outdoor classrooms or event spaces.
